9-11 Memorial 9-11 Memorial, Winslow, AZ 86047, United States

This modest 9-11 memorial is located at the east end of town, along historic Route 66. There’s accessible parking on both sides of the memorial, with a level sidewalk over to the viewing area, which contains two pieces from the wreckage of the World Trade Center. There’s ample evidence of the reverence of the site, as past visitors have left flags, messages and notes at the memorial. There’s also a medallion from the former Winslow Bridge which once spanned the Little Colorado River on Route 66, at the site. Although folks from the east coast may discount this memorial as minimal, it’s still a reverent spot and should be recognized as such.

The 9-11 Remembrance Garden is on the eastern outskirts of the "Take it Easy" town of Winslow. It's one of those literal memorials to the 2001 terror attacks erected by communities far from the day of carnage. Some people might consider Twin Tower replicas made from Twin Tower debris a bit tacky, but we've decided it accomplishes the mission better than some arty abstraction or pale Vietnam Memorial knockoff.

An American flag flutters above the garden, an isolated corner of scrubby plantings, and a good distance from any homes or businesses. Two rusted steel girders from the World Trade Center towers, one 14 ft. high and one 15 ft. high, stick up from a concrete base accompanied by a plaque that reads:

"These two steel beams from the World Trade Center, entrusted to the citizens of Winslow by the City of New York, along with this flag that was flown at the Pentagon, stand as the centerpiece of our Remembrance Garden. The words "United We Stand" remind the world that we will not fear terrorism. We hereby dedicate this Garden to Northern Arizona's promise that 'WE WILL NEVER FORGET"

This memorial pays a somber tribute to the men and women who lost their lives during the September 11th attacks. It’s a truly moving installation consisting of two original beams that were erected to represent the Twin Towers.

This memorial garden also includes a large piece from the original bridge that once connected to the town.

There is parking, as well as a big dog park. The area is very clean and quiet.
